Ride Levels
Each ride has a level so our riders can pick what works for them. If you're not sure what level you are, we suggest starting with a ride lower than you think you need and see how you do.
Ride levels are defined by the average speed of the overall ride, the speed the ride leader will attempt to maintain in the flat sections, the typical distance of the ride, and how much hill climbing will be on the route.
Here are the categories and colors we use on our Events Calendar.
W
Women's only ride. These rides will also use the levels below, but not the colors.
A
17-19+ mph avg, >23 mph on flats.
Demanding terrain, typically 30-60 miles.
‘A’ level rides will drop slower riders unless otherwise specified.
B+
16 -18 mph avg, >20 mph on flats.
Hilly terrain & steep climbs.
Typically 30-50 miles
B
15 – 17 mph avg, 18 mph on flats.
Moderately hilly/rolling terrain & steep climbs.
Typically 30-50 miles.
C+
14 – 16 mph avg, 17 mph on flats.
Moderately hilly/rolling terrain & steep climbs.
Typically 25-40 miles.
C
13 – 15 mph avg, 16 mph on flats.
Rolling terrain & moderate hills/climbs.
Typically 20-30 miles.
D+ +
12 – 14 mph avg, 15 mph on flats.
Flat/rolling terrain, often includes a hill climb.
Typically 10-20 miles. Road/ hybrid bikes allowed.
D
10 – 12 mph avg,13 mph on flats.
Flat/rolling terrain. Typically 10-15 miles.
Road/ hybrid bikes allowed.
G
Gravel ride.
MTB
Mountain bike, off road ride.
O
Other - Specifics (pace, terrain, location, type of bike) will be included with ride posting.
